Top 10 PowerAdvisor FAQ's

1. What do I do if PowerAdvisor says there is no available license?
If the PowerAdvisor login screen gives the message "No available License," Log into PowerAdvisor. The License Manager will appear. Select the license that is listed, and click Reset License. Close PowerAdvisor. Re-Open PowerAdvisor and log in.

2. What does block edit do?
The Block Edit feature allows you to change the transaction type of a set of transactions. This is done by selecting the transactions you would like to change by checking the box to the left of the transaction. Click the block edit button and select a transaction type from the 'Transaction Type' drop down menu in the 'Change Transaction Type' window. Depending on the transaction type you choose, there may be a category associated with the transaction type. Note: Transaction types are limited to allowed transaction types for that security type.

3. Where can I find additional user help?
Additional user help is located under the Help drop down menu at the top of the PowerAdvisor screen. Select Help and then choose User Help.

4. What is my PowerAdvisor Version and Patch update number?
PowerAdvisor has both a version number and a patch update number. These numbers can be found by selecting Help and choosing About PowerAdvisor. Your serial number is also located here.

5. What happens if I download Custodial files twice?
Client/Accounts, Securities and Pricing information will remain unchanged. However, Positions and Transactions will duplicate. Custodial position values will double in size and additional transactions will be processed in the form of duplicates. PowerAdvisor keeps a history of files that have been processed in order to minimize duplicates. If files are processed twice, delete the duplicate transactions and reset the positions. To reset the positions, go to the download screen. Choose the correct custodian and select Positions. Select the day you wish to adjust. Click delete and return to the download screen. You will need to either reprocess the position file ( ie. *.pos) or check the 'Show History' box, find the position file for the corresponding day and reprocess the file.

6. Where can I find a list of files downloaded to PowerAdvisor?
A download history can be found in the Downloads screen. Check the "Show History" box and a list of all previously downloaded files will be shown. These files can be deleted. However, the deleted files will be shown as new files to be captured unless you move them to a different location (like the trash).

7. Is there a standard report set I can run?
Every Advisor has a different idea of what information is worthwhile to their clients. PowerAdvisor comes standard with a comprehensive list of reports. The reports that are most commonly used are: Executive Summary, Asset Performance Analysis, Category Performance Summary, Statement of Assets, Realized Gains/Losses, Unrealized Gains/ Losses, and Return Detail.

8. How do I update end of month pricing if the end of the month is a weekend?
To update pricing for weekends or holidays, go to the Prices Maintenance window. Select the last day that pricing information has been gathered, click copy. Select the day you would like to copy prices to and then click Proceed.

9. Why does my Position Reconciliation report say I have no data?
The comparison done between both Power Advisor and your Custodian requires positions for each account. When a Position Reconciliation report says there is no data, PowerAdvisor is missing position data from the Custodian. Under the Downloads tab, select the custodial interface that you regularly use and choose positions. A calendar will pop up and if the specified date is green, positions have been loaded for that day.

10. How do I export reports?
Under the current reporting service, PowerAdvisor reports will let you export into several different formats. After a report and or bill generates, click the envelope icon. An Export Report window will pop up. Choose a name for the exported report/bill and select a format from the "save as type" drop down menu. Adobe format *.pdf,
MS Excel format *.xls,
MS Word *.doc,
Rich Text Format *.rtf.

Licensing

What are PowerAdvisor Licenses?

Application License

The PowerAdvisor application requires a valid Application License to operate. When you buy PowerAdvisor, you will receive an activating Application License custom configured for your company and for the duration of the purchase period, typically one year. When installed, the Application License allows a single user to login and use PowerAdvisor.

User License

You can buy additional User Licenses to allow as many users as you need to access PowerAdvisor concurrently. PowerAdvisor uses a 'license pool' to control available licenses for user logins. Each time a new user logs into PowerAdvisor, an available license is removed from the license pool. When a user exits PowerAdvisor, an available license is returned to the license pool.

What happens if my PowerAdvisor license expires?

An Application License and User License are custom configured for your company and remain active for the duration of the purchase period, typically one year. When you login to PowerAdvisor and the expiration date approaches, each license will display a 30-day warning message and then a 7-day critical warning message. Just contact your PowerAdvisor sales representative to renew your Application or User License before it expires. You will quickly receive your license renewal via email with installation instructions. If your PowerAdvisor Application License expires, you will not be able to use the PowerAdvisor application. Once you receive your license renewal via email, contact PowerAdvisor Customer Support for instructions on activating your expired license.

How do I renew my PowerAdvisor license?

Contact your PowerAdvisor sales representative to renew your Application or User license before it expires. You will quickly receive your license renewal via email with installation instructions.

How do I install my PowerAdvisor license?

When you buy PowerAdvisor, your activating Application License will be sent to you in an email attachment. The attached Application License File is easily installed using the instructions provided in the email.
