"The fact that I own my data with PowerAdvisor is a big factor for me. Companies come and go, and if they owned my data, that would be gone too. Independent financial planners owe it to themselves to support products that give you options so we are not at the mercy of those who decide what we pay and what we get."

Cornerstone Revolutions, Inc. Nabs Bruckenstein's "Rookie of the Year" Award for 2004 for Cornerstone PowerBroker Asset Management Software

December 28, 2004

Portland, OR - Can someone with multiple years of prior experience technically be considered a "rookie"?

While Major League Baseball may raise eyebrows by awarding players the title of Rookie of the Year who've been tested as professionals in their home country prior to coming to the U.S., Joel P. Bruckenstein, Senior Technology Editor at MorningstarAdvisor.com showed no hesitation in anointing Cornerstone Revolution's Cornerstone PowerBroker asset management software as Rookie of the Year for 2004.

While "rookie" as it is used in the field of sports typically refers to someone who is in their first year of play and has little or no experience, the Cornerstone team of executives, accountants, software developers, sales and marketing professionals, and support personnel claim over 120 years of combined experience in the investment management and financial planning industries.

"We are 'rookies' in the portfolio management software marketplace," explains Angela Lyles, Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Revolutions, Inc., "but we're operating from a solid base of over 120 years of combined experience in the investment management industry."

"That gives us a leg up in knowing what the independent investment advisor needs in a portfolio management application in order to meet the day-to-day challenges of doing business," Lyles asserts.

Identifying PowerBroker as "the first new decent desktop portfolio management and reporting package I've come across in a long time", Bruckenstein cites its design, ease of use, and reasonable price as features that help make the application "particularly well suited for those just starting out in the business, or those transitioning from a broker-dealer to an independent RIA".

While Bruckenstein claims he and his editors initiated the Rookie of the Year category in anticipation that "winners would be drawn from small companies with new products that were promising, but possibly not yet perfected," they actually named a product from mega Microsoft-Microsoft OneNote-as winner of the 2003 Rookie of the Year award. So much for classic concept of "rookie".

"What's important to us about this designation," says Cindee Hulm, National Sales Director at Cornerstone, "is that Joel categorizes this award as for software that 'either breaks new ground or holds great promise for the future'. At Cornerstone, we all come to work with the sense that we're charting new territory every day."

Bruckenstein's initial review of PowerBroker in the August issue of the e-zine, Financial Advisor, provided a feature-by-feature examination of the application and was Cornerstone's first comprehensive product review. In that article, Bruckenstein concluded it to be "a solid first release and an excellent value".

"This has been a tremendous year of growth at Cornerstone," says Scott Keller, Chief Administrative Officer, from their Portland, Oregon corporate offices. "We've invested a lot of time working with and listening to advisors who are currently using other portfolio management software products. Their feedback has been invaluable to our developers in integrating solutions to many of the frustrations they encounter with their current applications. As a result, PowerBroker has grown exponentially since Joel's first review."

Played like a tested professional.
